A member of the Academic House Team, the Director of Crew to College (DCC) is responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and evaluation of high-quality crew curricula and counseling programming to ensure students are matched and enroll in their best fit college.  The DCC reports to the CAO and leads a team of counselors while supporting deans of culture to meet organizational goals.  The DCC collaborates with the Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction (EDCI) and CAO to support deans, as well as collaborates with the CAO, EDCI, Executive Director of School Quality and Director of Student Development to support the strategic priorities of the organization.

Experience and Education Requirements:

  • School Counseling License required;
  • Currently possess Michigan Administrator Certificate or meet state requirements toward completion
  • Previous experience supporting college counseling preferred
  • Experience developing curriculum at the school level and district level
  • Experience with leading major initiatives from concept to implementation
  • Ability to distill essential findings from analysis, determine root causes, and suggest ways to improve current practices
  • Strong communication skills, verbal and written
  • Experience working with others to successfully complete multi-faceted projects

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support the implementation of the Five Elements of the U;
  • Drive the development of high quality crew curricula that is vertically aligned and horizontally consistent, as well as professional development aligned to the network and individual work of schools;
  • Collaborate with the CAO, EDCI and DCD to respond and address the roadblocks to the attainment of student outcomes through targeted resources and PD
  • Promote a data driven culture across the network, focusing on progress of crew and college programming at the network and school level;
  • Structure, sequence, and deliver professional development to deans and counselors in support of school goals;
  • Assess impact of professional development in support of continuous improvement based on student performance data and knowledge of promising field practices;
  • Collaborate with cao to develop succession plans for priority positions;
  • Study trends in crew and counseling feedback for areas of strength and growth and recommends improvements to the cao;
  • Determine and monitor the implementation of crew curriculum to address gaps in crew practices;
  • Support the development of deans of culture and counselors to secure the post secondary best option for every scholar;
  • Defines standards for college counseling including programming and practice standards;
  • Coaches counselors and deans in the use of best practices to achieve organizational goals;
  • Collaborates with academic house team members to implement systems to connect curriculum, instruction, and assessment, including
  • Network-wide and/or district-wide benchmark assessments aligned with curricula,
  • Standards-based scales for measuring student growth and achievement;
  • Displays the highest ethical and professional standards of behavior;
  • Protects confidentiality of student, staff, and organizational data, using discretion when sharing any such information within legal confines;
  • Adheres to federal statutes and regulations, Michigan school law, State Board of Education rules and regulations, Detroit 90/90 policies and procedures, and contractual obligations; and
  • Perform any duties and responsibilities that are within the scope of employment, as assigned by the position’s supervisor, and not otherwise prohibited by law or regulation.
