Executive Managing Director of Administrative Services

Summary:

The Executive Managing Director of Administrative Services assist the CEO to ensures we substantially and effectively support our network’s mission and vision to deliver a high-quality educational experience for scholars.   Expectations of this role are to develop, achieve, and maintain systematic support across the organization, as well as remove barriers and eliminate inefficiencies across four areas of supervision.   The Executive Managing Director of Administrative Services supervises the Executive Directors of Finance and Marketing as well as Directors of Information Technology and Human Resources. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serves as an integral member of the Executive Leadership Team;
  • Leads the strategy and operational execution of the Detroit 90/90 administrative services for marketing, finance, human resources and IT to ensure outstanding support to network staff and students;
  • Establishes department goals and drives results to support the network of schools’ goals and objectives; establishes schedules and work standards to ensures execution of goals and objectives; takes appropriate actions to correct performance and to adjust programs and responsibilities as needed; and,
  • Leads the alignment and use of resources for the above functional areas to obtain maximum service support and efficiencies for the educational staff;
  • Manages, leads, and enables the process of change, anticipating and managing internal and external dynamics that affect change;
  • Oversees and directs the development of department policies and procedures;
  • Ensures the districts are adequately funded to support their annual operations; supports the Executive Director of Finance in maintaining effective working relationships with federal, state, and financial institutions to ensure funding is available and adequate;
  • Reviews all financial reporting to the applicable Board of Directors; analyzes financial information for planning and recommendations to the CEO and Board of Directors;
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable policies, rules, regulations, and laws; stays abreast of legal, regulatory, and policy changes affecting applicable areas of Central Management responsibility;
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor's degree with equivalent work experience required; Master's degree in a related field strongly preferred. 
  • Ten or more years of administrative services leadership experience, preferably in CMO, school district or high functioning social sector organization with success overseeing many of the following functional areas: finance, procurement, information technology, and human resources.
  • A track record of managing, leading and integrating teams in diverse functional areas, a team builder who has experience and people skills in a multi-site environment, capacity to enforce accountability, develop and empower talent and learn the strengths and weaknesses of the team to put people in a position to succeed;
  • Advance skill at solving complex problems that involve considerations of tradeoffs, risks and affects on services and people;
  • Ability to cultivate a cross functional workplace climate that encourages continual improvement and applies best-in-class integrated systems and processes;
  • Exceptional systems and process orientation and experience with overseeing the design complex and scalable systems/processes from scratch and improving upon existing ones;
  • Strong ability to understand, simplify and effectively operationalize IT systems to support end users;
  • Record of achieving results, ability to establish meaningful metrics to support data driven decisions to shape vision and strategy;
  • Ability to develop, implement and effect change in operational procedures, policies and organizational structure;
  • Must have ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, including the ability to make effective presentations;
  • Demonstration of ability to interact effectively with leadership team, school leaders, and board members; and builds constructive working relationships characterized by a high level of acceptance, cooperation and mutual respect
  • Computer proficiency and strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Google and Windows Platforms are essential.
