U Prep teachers are responsible for implementing curriculum, maintain a positive classroom culture, using assessments to drive instructional practice, using district resources in an efficient and responsible manner, contributing to the educational and social development of all students, and participating in the professional development of the learning community.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Teach law specific classes
  • Build student identity as Ford Law Academy member
  • Prepare students for and oversee field experiences 
  • Prepare students for and oversee capstone experiences
  • Build relationships with law community partners
  • Support personal development of students
  • Establish and maintain a culture of civil discourse
  • Gather and share data 
  • Provide law-content specific support to colleagues
  • Participate as Ford Law team member
  • Participate in team meetings 
  • Collaborate to design and develop Ford law-specific rituals
  • Work with colleagues, as needed, to ensure completion of program requirements
  • Provide feedback on program implementation
  • Collaborate to develop interdisciplinary projects and experiences
  • Participate in recruitment planning and events
  • Serve as an ambassador for the program
  • Fulfill responsibilities assigned to all teachers

Required Qualifications/Experience: 

  • Valid MI teaching certificate in English or Social Studies
  • Extensive background in law in lieu of teacher certification
  • Cultural Responsive Educator
  • Candidates must be comfortable operating in a flexible, self-directed and fast-paced work environment
  • Enthusiasm for the program
  • An evident commitment to holding all students to high expectations for academic and personal success
  • Training as a lawyer
  • 3 years of successful teaching experience
  • Knowledge of and experience using Project-Based Learning
  • Knowledge of and experience using principles of Deeper Learning
  • Understanding  of the National Standards of Practice (NSOP) for Career Academies
  • Commitment to continuous learning and improvement   

Desired Qualifications/Experience: 

  • Training as a lawyer
  • 3 years of successful teaching experience
